9 Steps to Combat Lazy Blogger Syndrome: Have a case of LBS, a.k.a., Lazy Blogger Syndrome? Are ideas, or lack there of, not coming to fruition? In a daze, staring at all those drafts waiting to published? Or are there any drafts? Yikes. Blogging is a creative act and the best, most excellent posts must be inspired. Feeling like a cog-in-the-wheel of your OWN blog? This should never be the case. While it does take hard work to make a wonderful blog, blogging should never feel “ho-hum” that’s what jobs are for, this is your career or your hobby that you enjoy and are passionate about, right? Walking through these tips will, hopefully, bring you closer to reuniting with that enjoyment and passion again. 🙂
1. TAKE A VACATION
Travel somewhere ideally a new place you haven’t been to before. Or this could be a “stay-cation”, in any case, you may need a mental and physical break from your blog. Step away – far away – from the blog! Bring a notebook and pen to make sure you can jot down any ideas that might spring up while you are away. The blog will still be there when you return, just waiting to be reignited with your passion for blogging!
2. FOCUS ON ANOTHER AREA
Are there piles of mental “to-dos” floating around your blog like laundry piles around the house? Ask yourself some questions, for example: How’s the organization of your mailing list? Could your ads be more optimized? Could you do more to grow your Pinterest traffic? Could you pay closer attention to your Instagram posts? Does your website need a face lift or theme change? Have you reached out to partner with brands that would be a good fit with your blog? Are you SEO optimized? Do you know what that is? (you should) Are you using all those plugins you downloaded? Try checking out that eBook that you have been putting off getting and grow your skills. I am sure that if you think you have mastered everything, there’s ten million different things you could improve on. There is always a better or different way to approach anything and or try something new.
3. SEEK INSPIRATION
Watch a movie on Netflix or Amazon Prime, read a book, study other blogs, go to the bookstore to browse, eat out at a restaurant that you have been wanting to try. Also, try doing something unrelated to food (gasp!) it might make something click when you come back to one of those unpublished posts sitting in your draft queue.
4. THERE’S A LARGER PICTURE -> LOOK AT IT
Are you happy with the direction that your blog is going? Would you like to focus on other topics? Does what you are doing with your blog represent you in your life right now?
5. CLEAN HOUSE
I mean_physically_clean your home or office where you live and work. You will be able to to think more clearly when you can work in a clean environment.
6. GET ORGANIZED
Do this after #5. You will be able to organize your thoughts better if your physical space is organized and you can find things you need. Sometimes doing dumb obvious things like organizing can help you accomplish other things, just by the act of doing.
7. WORK OUT OF YOUR USUAL WORKSPACE
Go a coffee shop or the library alone to work on a specific task and complete it. Feel good about it, pat yourself on the back and then do it again.
8. CONNECT & RECONNECT WITH FRIENDS & FAMILY
Sometimes talking to your friends reminds you of who you are and brings you closer to your own purpose. Listen and ask what they are doing with their lives/hobbies/careers/family. Sometimes hearing about other peoples lives reminds you of what your own goals are.
9. MAKE NEW FRIENDS
Warm fuzzies, warm fuzzies! Get out of your comfort zone, reach out and go to a local MeetUp.com group or a Facebook group that you have an interest in, get active in an organization that you belong to or want to join. Hey, you never know who you might connect with and networking is good. Simple participation, showing up and interaction can be a catalyst to action 🙂
