Given a choice, I'd choose to live on pie and what a great pie to start with. I have made my weight in apple pies and I have made apple and pear pies but never a pear only pie. My brain explodes at the thought.

    • Sara says

Hello Maureen, thank you for visiting my blog and leaving such a nice comment, a pear pie is so good, I hope you try one! I think the key is getting the "right" kind of pears to bake with and getting the combination of spices and sugar just right 🙂

  8. Amy @ Thoroughly Nourished Life says

What luck to have a pear tree right in your backyard! That's wonderful 🙂
My parents have a gorgeous mango tree that blesses us with fruit every summer, and they've just expanded their fruit trees so hopefully next year we will have apples and citrus too! There's nothing like eating something growing in the same patch of earth that you are 🙂
I can't wait to try this pear pie, what a delightful change from apple!

    • Sara says

Hi Amy, I wholeheartedly agree with you that there's nothing like growing your own food. I can't wait to get some gardens established here and maybe expand with more fruiting trees. Your parents are SO lucky, mangoes are so delicious, they must taste amazing right from the tree! Thank you for visiting:)

  9. Lucy @ Bake Play Smile says

Oooh we have so many pears!!!! This is going to be perfect. What a gorgeous big pie! Thanks so much for linking up with Fabulous Foodie Fridays. xx

  10. Rosie says

This looks so good. I have a bounty of pears, too, and I'm wondering, did you use the pears while they are still hard? Do they soften up baking? I want to make this, but wondering if you waited til the pears softened.

    • Sara says

Hi Rosie, when the pears are firm (ripe but firm), not soft is when they are good for baking. When they are very soft, then they don't hold up as well when they are baked. Stick to a pear that is a good variety for baking, like Bosc, Anjou and even Bartlett pears. Thank you for your question! Best, ~Sara
