Stir Fry Lettuce

Stir Fry Lettuce is a simple, unexpected, cost-effective, vegetarian dish that can be made year-round with readily available Iceberg lettuce. It has fresh Iceberg lettuce, olive oil, toasted sesame oil, garlic, 5-spice powder, and soy sauce. When the Iceberg lettuce is cooked this way, it is crisp to the bite, juicy, and flavorful with these Asian-inspired seasonings. Serve it over rice, noodles, ramen soup, or as a part of another recipe.

Instructions

  1. On the stovetop, add the olive oil and sesame oil to a wok over medium heat. Add the minced garlic, and 5-spice powder seasoning, and stir. As the oil heats up, add the Iceberg lettuce, drizzle the soy sauce and stir until the lettuce is coated, if the lettuce is piled high, you can cover the wok and let the lettuce cook down before stirring more.
  2. Cook the lettuce until it is wilted and cooked through, this should take only a few minutes (1-2 minutes, depending on the heat of your burner). The lettuce will give off water as it cooks and you can use this sauce to pour over the rice or noodles if you plan to eat it that way. You can leave it uncovered and cook off the excess liquid but that will make the lettuce softer. Enjoy over rice, noodles, in soup, or as a part of another recipe!
