Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C). Remove the giblets and neck from the turkey cavity. Rinse the turkey inside and out with cold water, then pat it dry with paper towels.


In a bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, paprika, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Strip the leaves from the fresh thyme, rosemary, and sage, then finely chop them.


Gently loosen the skin of the turkey by running your hand under it.


Soak the cheesecloth in the chicken or turkey broth until fully saturated. Wring out excess liquid from the cheesecloth, leaving it damp but not dripping.
