Place wax or parchment paper in the 8x8x2 or 9x9x2 pan and clip the edges with binder clips or clothespins so it doesn't move.
In a large pot over the stove, on low heat, heat the butter until melted, add the marshmallows and stir slowly until melted, then add the rice cereal and mix until combined.
Spread them in the prepped pan making sure not to press down too hard so that they don't compact.
