Grandma’s Perfect Jam Thumbprint Cookies

These Grandma’s Perfect Jam Thumbprint Cookies are a shortbread-style cookie and a family recipe that was popular in the 1950s. We have included many notes on healthier ingredient swaps if you choose while sticking close to the original, classic recipe.

– 1/4 cup shortening

Ingredients

– 1/4 cup unsalted butter

– 1/4 cup dark brown sugar

– 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Heat oven to 350 degrees F (176 degrees C). Line a baking sheet or 2 if you have 2, with silicone baking mats (ungreased) and set aside.

 In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients, the flour, and the kosher salt, until combined.

In a large mixing bowl, using a handheld electric mixer (or by hand), mix the shortening, unsalted butter, brown sugar, egg yolk, and vanilla extract, until evenly combined.
