How to Be a Morning Person

I am one of those people who is not "naturally" a morning person, in fact, I can be quite the night owl.

There's nothing better than staying up to finish work or watch a movie or binge on social media content.

I totally understand staying up late when someone is in startup mode with their new business (as I have done before) or perhaps to finish a school project - but it doesn't always have to be that way!

Being a morning person has so many benefits!

It's great being "in sync" with your friends, family - the rest of the world.

One of my biggest surprises is that I found the morning time to be my most productive time for writing and work, especially now that I work for myself and love what I do.

Getting more accomplished in the morning allows me to have less stress and accomplish more.

The results have positive ripple effects in one's life that can be rewarding and wonderful.

I hope this list helps anyone who struggles with being a morning person, enjoy!

#1 - Organize for the Next Day, a Day Ahead

Layout your clothes & your children(s) clothes, program your coffee maker ahead of time, and make a list of things you want/need to accomplish the next day.

Sometimes doing little things to lessen the burden on the morning routine contributes greatly to saving time.

    #2 - Eat Dinner Early

Eating dinner early or as early as you can is great because your evening gets started earlier and things like dishes and cleanup also get done earlier.

Scheduling a day's major event like dinner earlier sets in motion an earlier evening.

#3 - Avoid Night Time Snacking

If you are getting hungry as the night goes on, chances are that your body is tired and just needs sleep, not more food (unless you have certain caloric/dietary needs specific to you).

I try to avoid snacking, or at least excessive snacking at night after dinner.

If you do snack, it is helpful to keep it healthy and go for something like fruit which has fiber vs. sugary (refined sugar) foods.

#3 - Go to Bed Early

I have found that going to bed early when you start to feel tired is best.

If you push through to stay up past a certain point, it can be harder to fall asleep and the whole night's sleep will get thrown off.

A dog's life - too bad we can't all sleep all day!

    #4 - Have a Morning Ritual

    Do you Bullet Journal?

Do you have coffee or tea or breakfast with your family?

Ask yourself what are your key morning routines.

This can help guide those of us who can experience a "fog" in the morning to get through the morning and wake up.

I light a relaxing candle when I do my morning work which adds a "calm" atmosphere to that part of the day.

#5 - Plan Things for the Weekend

Having something to look forward to on the weekend is a great way to keep one's weekly schedule disciplined so that you do not end up staying up later as the week goes on.

    #6 - Organization & Planning Ahead

Planning ahead in general helps keep ones schedule more organized and realistic.

I have been applying minimalism to my schedule my spreading out what I need to accomplish and just trying to do 1 significant thing each day.

By doing 1 thing, I have found myself with more time to get other things done because it alleviates pressure to accomplish a lot in a little amount of time.

    It's really a mindset shift.

#7 - Have Control & Discipline Around Your Distractions

The smartphone, the TV, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Social Media - are a few of some common distractions, and when we use these various things we derive pleasure out of them.

Have these things be a treat if you get something accomplished.

Having self-imposed discipline is a GOOD thing and when you do enjoy your favorite forms of entertainment, you can be fully present and appreciate them more.

It's all about forming good habits and sticking to them and valuing the underlying reason why it's important to do so!

I hope this list has been helpful to you in thinking about How to Be a Morning Person!
