Christmas cookie boxes are so much fun to make and make the perfect holiday gift for friends and family. They're great for gifting, bringing to holiday parties, or enjoying at home. 

How to Make a Wonderful Christmas Cookie Box

It's that time of year again - time to make your Christmas Cookie Box! 

Making homemade cookies to put into your box is so much fun! I invite my friends and family over to bake, decorate and listen to Christmas music. It has become one of our favorite traditions. 

Over the years, I feel like I have found a great routine on how to make the perfect Christmas Cookie Box. Here is my favorite way to create a holiday cookie box from beginning to end, and how to ship them to friends and family for a great Christmas gift. 

First, choose your cookies: 

I started thinking about what I wanted my box to look like in November. This gives me enough time to plan the perfect cookie gift box.

Whether you're using store-bought or homemade cookies, you want to make sure that you're using cookies of all shapes and sizes. I like to use five to eight different kinds of cookies, depending on the size of my box. 

If you're going to use homemade cookies in your box, I like to make them the night before so they have plenty of time to cool before putting them in the cookie box. Let your kids join in on the cookie-making fun or a fun Christmas Cookie night with your friends! 

I like adding a few different elements in my boxes like Christmas Hersey kisses, candy canes, or any other holiday treats you want. 

My favorite holiday treats to use in my Christmas cookie box: 

1. Gingerbread Cutout Cookies
2. Sand Tart Cookies
3. Snickerdoodle Cookies
4. Oatmeal Raisin Cranberry Cookies
5. 3 Ingredient Peanut Butter Cookies
6. Cookie Recipes Collection
7. Peppermint Bark
8. Homemade Kit Kat Bars

Then, pick out the perfect box: 

I like to use shallow cardboard cookie boxes with a lid or festive cookie tins. There are so many options to choose from. I really like these Christmas boxes, these holiday boxes, or these cookie tins. These are the boxes that I use in the photos in this post.

Keep in mind, you can always add different items in your box to keep your different kinds of cookies separate. I like to use cardstock to separate the cookies or cupcake liners that match the theme of my box.

Now, let's put your box together: 

Time to get creative! The way you assemble your Christmas cookie box is up to you! I like to plan out how I want the box to look before starting to add in my cookies and holiday treats. I like to put different shaped or flavored cookies next to each other. You'll often have multiple circle cookies; I like to separate them with card stock or wrap them with a ribbon to group them together. 

Shipping your Christmas Cookie Box:

If you're planning on shipping your holiday cookie box to friends or family, I recommend wrapping your box in bubble wrap and using two-day air with UPS or FedEx. You want to pack your shipping box tightly so that your cookies don't shake around too much during shipping. You can even put some tissue paper in your cookie box to keep your cookies from moving around. Be sure to put a fragile sticker on the box.
