This Pork Roll Bagel breakfast or brunch sandwich has pork roll (also called, Taylor Ham), egg(s), and optional cheese, all on a toasty bagel. This New Jersey original meat is the perfect ingredient for a satisfying breakfast sandwich.
Hi Everyone, Pork Roll, also called, Taylor Ham, is a ham product that is popular to serve for breakfast or brunch in the Central New Jersey and Pennsylvania area.
It's salty, savory, and flavorful and is perfect in a bagel, or breakfast sandwich. It's so easy to make in the morning, making the perfect, satisfying, family-favorite breakfast sandwich to keep you going through the morning!
According to Wikipedia:
Pork roll is a processed meat commonly available in New Jersey and neighboring states.[1] It was developed in 1856 by John Taylor of Trenton, and sold as "Taylor's Prepared Ham" until 1906.[2] Though since then food labeling regulations require Taylor and all other manufacturers to label it "pork roll", people in northern New Jersey still call it "Taylor ham".[3] The "Is it pork roll or Taylor ham?" question is a notable element of New Jersey culture, and the division over what name one uses divides the state along roughly north–south geographic lines.

In a large skillet, over medium-high heat, add the pork roll slices (slices halfway to the center) and cook for 1-2 minutes or until desired crispiness is reached. Remove the pork roll slices and place them onto a plate.
Add the unsalted butter and allow it to melt, coat the bottom of the pan, and then add the bagel slices to toast them. When they are done toasting, move them to the plate. If you are adding any cheese, you can add it on top of the egg to make it melty.
Add 1-2 eggs, still over medium-high heat, and fry them according to your tastes. I cook mine over easy (3-4 minutes). When the eggs are done, it's time to assemble the sandwich, add the pork roll on top of the bottom bagel, then add the egg and optional cheese, add the top bagel, and slice the sandwich, if you wish. Enjoy your pork roll sandwich!
