Hi Everyone, we love potatoes around here!
This is by far, one of the most no-nonsense ways to make mashed potatoes with one of our favorite kitchen appliances, the Instant Pot!

Ingredients
- 3 pounds of Yukon gold or Russet potatoes, peeled and cut in half
- 4-5 cups of water, enough to cover the potatoes
- 2 teaspoons salt, divided, plus more, in case you need it to be saltier
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cubed
- 1/2 cup half-and-half
- 1/2 teaspoon fresh, ground black pepper, amount to taste, for serving

- large metal strainer/collander
- handheld electric mixer
- measuring spoons and cups
- 2-cup wet measure
- serving spoon (that comes with the Instant Pot) or similar
How to Make Instant Pot Mashed Potatoes
Step 1
Pressure Cook the Potatoes: Place the prepared potatoes in the Instant Pot metal liner, pour the water in, add 1 teaspoon of salt, cover, set the valve to “sealing”, and manually set it to cook for 8 minutes.
Step 2
Mash the Potatoes: When the potatoes are done cooking, allow them to depressurize naturally or use the “quick release” valve. Uncover and drain the potatoes. Return the potatoes to the pot, and add the butter, half-and-half, add salt (amount to taste), and fresh, ground pepper (amount to taste). Whip the potatoes with a handheld electric mixer. You can keep the potatoes warm in the Instant Pot for serving.
Recipe Note
- Optional Garnish: Optionally, you can top the mashed potatoes with fresh, chopped parsley, for serving.
