Sourdough Graham Crackers
The number of servings can vary depending on factors such as the size of the crackers, how thin they're rolled out, and individual snacking habits. However, as a rough estimate, this recipe typically yields approximately 2 to 3 dozen crackers.
It's important to adjust the quantities based on your serving needs. If you're serving the crackers as appetizers for a gathering, you may want to double or triple the recipe. Conversely, if you're making them for personal snacking, the original yield may be sufficient.
Yes, you can substitute another oil for olive oil in your sourdough cracker recipe. Here are some alternative oils you can consider:
Vegetable Oil: A neutral-flavored vegetable oil, such as canola or sunflower oil, can be a good substitute.
Coconut Oil: If you don't mind a hint of coconut flavor, melted and cooled coconut oil can add a unique taste to your crackers.
Grapeseed Oil: Grapeseed oil has a mild flavor and is suitable for baking, making it a good substitute for olive oil.
Avocado Oil: Avocado oil is another option with a mild flavor that can work well in cracker recipes.
Sesame Oil: If you enjoy the flavor of sesame, consider using toasted sesame oil in small quantities for a distinctive taste.
Choose an oil based on your flavor preferences and the overall taste you want to achieve in your sourdough crackers. Keep in mind that some oils, like coconut oil, may solidify at cooler temperatures, so make sure it's in a liquid state when incorporating it into the dough.
To maintain the freshness and crunchiness of your homemade sourdough crackers, follow these storage instructions:
-Allow the crackers to cool completely after baking.
-Transfer the cooled crackers to an airtight container or a resealable plastic bag.
-Store the container in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture.
-This helps prevent the crackers from becoming stale or soggy.
Enjoy your sourdough crackers within a week for the best taste and texture. While they may still be edible beyond that, their freshness may decline over time.
By storing your sourdough crackers properly, you can extend their shelf life and continue to enjoy them as a delicious snack or accompaniment to your favorite dips and cheeses.

Sourdough Graham Crackers
Crispy, tangy sourdough crackers are perfect for snacking or pairing with your favorite dips. Easy to make and customizable with herbs and spices. A homemade delight!
Ingredients
- 1 cup sourdough starter
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup Canola oil
- 2-3 tablespoons granulated white sugar
- ½ teaspoon fine kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon, optional for making cinnamon sourdough graham crackers
- Optional: herbs, seeds, or spices for flavor – we love cinnamon-sugar mixture!
Instructions
- In a bowl or stand mixer with paddle attachment, combine the sourdough starter, flour, Canola oil, and salt.
- Mix until a dough forms, then knead it on a floured surface until smooth.
- Roll out the dough thinly, aiming for about 1/16 inch thickness.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cut the rolled-out dough into desired shapes using a cookie cutter or a knife (I use a dough scraper).
- Place the cut shapes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Prick the dough with a fork to prevent air bubbles.
- Optional: Brush the crackers with olive oil and sprinkle herbs, seeds, or spices for added flavor (our favorite is cinnamon sugar!).
- Bake for 15-20 minutes or until the crackers are golden brown and crisp.
- Allow them to cool completely on a wire cooling rack before serving.
