Ingredients
- 1 bunch of curly kale (you can substitute other varieties of Kale), washed & pat dry, the thickest part of the stems cut – we left them on, in the photos, to hold the kale while eating the leafy part
- Olive oil or you can substitute Canola oil, spray
- fine salt, amount to taste
- fresh ground black pepper, amount to taste, for serving
- Optional: low-sodium soy sauce, for drizzling, for serving
- Optional: toasted sesame oil, for drizzling, for serving
Kitchen Tools
- grill
- tongs
- serving platter
- oil sprayer, we like to use the “Misto” brand
How to Make Grilled Kale
Step 1
Preheat your gas grill to 350-375 degrees F (medium heat).
Step 2
In a large mixing bowl, coat the kale leaves completely with olive oil. You can add fine salt at this point and more later, for serving, if you wish.
Step 3
Add the kale leaves evenly spaced out on the grill, preferably on indirect heat on an upper rack, if you have one available on your grill. Make sure to watch the kale closely as it cooks to prevent it from burning. Cook for about 6-9 minutes, turning the kale leaves over as needed, as it cooks. (The cooking time will vary depending on your brand of the grill and the type of kale you use)
Step 3
When the kale is done to your preferred degree of doneness, remove it from the grill and serve it as an appetizer, side dish, or as a part of another recipe, enjoy!
Notes
- Recommendations: We recommend using a grill that has a “shelf” grill/upper rack that is not directly next to the flame with this recipe, otherwise you need to watch the kale very carefully or you might end up burning the leaves!
