Sweet Saturday #1 – 6.24.2017
Hi Everyone!Â
I hope everyone is enjoying the Summer weather.
So what is “Sweet Saturday”?
Sweet Saturday is a *new* series on Life’s Little Sweets where I highlight & share interesting news & entertainment (and anything in between) online that I come across.
I will also share about how the past week has been.
#1
We have been busy at “la Maison de Maniez” (our house, lol).
At the beginning of the week, our French cousin Lucile arrived at the beginning of the week and we went to LBI (Long Beach Island, NJ) to get away & escape the heat (we don’t have central air…YET)Â for a couple of days while Eric stayed home, worked and took care of the dogs.
We are having fun showing Lucile around and she has helped me with many recipes which I plan to share in the coming week.
Here’s a preview of one such recipe below…

I love listening to podcasts in general but lately, I have been really into this newer podcast on NPR called How I Built This.
I like it so much so that I have listened to every. single. one. they’ve put out so far.
I love hearing about all the different entrepreneurs and innovators and find a lot of inspiration there.
As Quoted from their site to describe the podcast:
How I Built This is a podcast about innovators, entrepreneurs, and idealists, and the stories behind the movements they built. Each episode is a narrative journey marked by triumphs, failures, serendipity and insight — told by the founders of some of the world’s best known companies and brands. If you’ve ever built something from nothing, something you really care about — or even just dream about it — check out How I Built This hosted by Guy Raz
The TOMS episode with the founder Blake Mycoskie was particularly good. The podcast is great inspiration for entrepreneurs.
#3 –Â 2nd Floor, Guest Bedroom Update
I want to share about our 2nd floor, guest bedroom renovation soon.
I haven’t shared it yet because I had to return the wrong size curtain rod that I got from Lowes.
I have been taking progress photos all along.
Did you see my post on Our Home Before Photos?
There’s a photos of the 2nd floor in that post and this particular room.
This is the bedroom that we renovated for our cousin Lucile.
Working on that bedroom is kinda inspiring me to get going on the other rooms in our unfinished upstairs space…I am thinking master bedroom suite and office big picture, so we will see.
#4 – Kitchen Renovation Update
On Tuesday 6/27, we get our cabinets! Yay!
They will sit a bit until 7/5 & 7/6 when they will be installed by the contractor.
It will not be until mid-July when the countertops are in.
Then the outlets for the countertop and the white subway tile backsplash will be the final touches.
Actually, a new fridge would be nice too but I am still researching that one…
#5- New Baby’s Room
It is dawning on the horizon of my mind that I need to create a room/space for the new baby that we are expecting October 5th. (See Margo’s Going to Be a Big Sister).
I don’t think it will be that hard since I have already gone through the process of setting up a nursery for my daughter. I’ll have to share the photos of when I first set her room up sometime.
So, to be continued on the “New Baby’s Room” topic..
#6 – Midnight in Paris
Finally saw this film on Netflix.
I really enjoyed it.
At the time of my writing this, it’s not a new film but it was new to me.
I love cerebral, a little philosophical, imaginative, funny movies like that.
I recommend seeing it if you haven’t already.
It’s a nice, light film to watch with other people, plus all the gorgeous Paris scenery is easy on the eyes.
Here’s the official trailer for “Midnight in Paris”:
#7 – Farm Update
I’ve never actually done a “Farm Update” on Life’s Little Sweets, probably because the farm isn’t our house/property, it’s where my Father-in-Law and Eric’s sister and her family live…but we spend a lot of time there and if you follow LLS on Instagram, you will frequently see scenes and updates, usually with the hashtag #farmlife attached to it.
I love staying connected to the seasons and the farm always illustrates that so well.
Lately, on the farm, the blueberries are ready for picking, though it’s not as bountiful a year as previous years.
The first blooming variety of Lavender is blooming and the bees go nuts for the lavender flowers.
The grapevines are looking healthy and growing and I have my eye on some of those early leaves for making my awesome Stuffed Grape Leaves recipe that I adore so much.
The hens are laying eggs in a plentiful manner and I am thinking of recipes that use a lot of eggs, so stay tuned for egg-full recipes 🙂
#8 – New Recipes
We had 2 new recipes this week: a sweet one Coconut Chocolate Chip and a savory one, Franks and Peppers Stew Recipe.
I have a ton of recipes that I have taken photos of and I just need to get on the blog, starting Monday you will those.
Monday, look for a new lush dessert recipe, I am starting to build up a category of those…
See you next week!
