Homemade Sour Patch Kumquats Recipe
Hi Everyone, I have a unique, homemade “Sour Patch Kids” recipe involving a favorite, unique sour-citrus fruit: Kumquats!
Sour Patch Kids are one of my all-time, favorite candies, so this recipe is inspired by them – just a bit healthier!
I thought of this recipe a couple of years ago but whenever I would buy kumquats as they became available in the Northeast United States in November, but then I would get them home and just gobble them up before making them!
These Sour Patch Kumquats are the ultimate sour punch, if you are into sour flavors, like me 🙂
I can see these being made for small bites at a party, movie/tv watching, or to bring to a potluck/holiday gathering.
What are Kumquats?

When Kumquats in Season?
In season from November to March, kumquats are best when firm and bright orange in color; avoid those with a greenish tint as they are not yet fully ripe. Kumquats will keep at room temperature for up to three days, and they can last up to two weeks in the refrigerator. (source: Serious Eats)
How Do you Eat Kumquats?
Kumquats can eaten whole, skin, seeds and all.
Sometimes if the seeds are big, then I would spit them out but they are all edible.
They are like tiny, little oranges that are more sour than sweet.
